Jessica Sanders hates rollercoasters. She doesn’t especially enjoy feeling as if her stomach is in her head, which makes sense when you consider that most of her work tends to be grounded in reality. While she might inject an occasional dose of fantasy into her narratives – and is skilled at developing interesting and occasionally quirky characters – she also has accumulated an Academy Award nomination and an impressive list awards at Sundance, Cannes and other top film and advertising festivals.
Jessica started directing commercials after winning a Cannes Young Director award for a highly-acclaimed short film for Sony called “Make Believe.” Since then, she has created commercials for Apple (after being selected by Steve Jobs to direct the iPad launch campaign), Amazon, Land Rover, Toyota and Samsung as well as the short film “End of the Line” for Refinery29 and TNT. She is working on her first scripted feature film, “Picking Cotton” inspired by her Sundance-winning documentary “After Innocence” and the New York Times Best Selling book. The film is being financed by Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (Crazy Rich Asians, Hell or High Water).
What is Jessica’s favorite thing about directing? “I love how collaborative directing is. Bringing together amazing, diverse artists to create something exceptional together. There is a magic to the creative process that I’m in love with!” This deep appreciation of the collective effort required to create commercials and films makes her one of the most exciting and inspiring directors working today.
