Thomas Garber approaches every commercial he directs as if it will be his last. That’s why he would be hard-pressed to pick one spot above the others in his impressive credit list that fills him with the most pride. While he recently directed spots for Mercedes-Benz and Jeep which are definitely noteworthy for their stunning visuals, Thomas prefers a modest approach to his filmmaking.
Born in Salzburg, Austria, a city renowned for its art and culture (and as the birthplace of Mozart!), Thomas studied at a local art university and specialized in multimedia. This lead to a career as an editor working in the film, music video and commercial worlds. He then moved to Germany to study directing at the prestigious FilmAkademie Baden Württemberg. Due to his immense talent, he was picked up by a French production company while he was still in film school and, shortly after his signing, he was nominated for the Young Directors Award at Cannes and profiled at the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors showcase.
Since then, Thomas has gone on to direct dozens of commercials for Audi, Axe, Johnnie Walker, Volkswagen, Kaufland, Nissan and Lincoln. He has become a sought-after director on both sides of the Atlantic and continues to inspire and amaze with his dynamic style.
