SPRING 2005
FROM HAWAII TO CHICAGO
After spending a year in Hawaii working
in film, I have returned to Chicago (info and pictures from my adventures
in Hawaii will be up with the next newsletter next month). Big thanks
to my parents for making the transition an easy one.
Unfortunately, production in Hawaii has all but ceased. On the plus side,
thanks to Chicago’s big tax breaks, production is booming in Chicago.
Also, fortunately, I have worked on all three films that have shot in
Chicago so far:
STRANGER THAN FICTION
Comedy. Directed by Marc
Forester (“Finding Neverland,” “Monster’s
Ball”). An IRS auditor (played by Will
Ferrell) suddenly finds himself the subject of narration
only he can hear: narration that begins to effect his entire life, from
his work, to his love-interest, to his death. Also stars Dustin
Hoffman, Queen Latifa, Emma Thompson and Maggie
Gyllenhaal ("Mona Lisa Smile").
IL MARE
Romance. A doctor (played by Sandra Bullock)
and an architect (played by Keanu Reeves)
who live the same house -- only two years apart from one another -- fall
in love via letters they both deposit in the same mysterious mailbox.
Also stars Jeremy Irons
("The Merchant of Venice”), Dylan
Walsh (“Nip/Tuck”) and Christopher
Plummer (“Cold Creek Manor,” “National
Treasure”).
YOU ARE GOING TO PRISON
Comedy. Directed by Bob Odenkirk
(“HBO’s Mr. Show with Bob and David”).
A career criminal played by Dax Shepard
(“Punk’d”) and an entitled rich guy
played by Will Arnett (“Arrested
Development”) wind up sharing a cell in a maximum-security
prison. Also stars Chi McBride
(“Boston Public”).
OTHER CHICAGO PROJECTS
In addition to the big studio pictures, I’ve been
working on smaller productions and my own projects. I made my feature
screen debut as a stuntman opposite Larry
Thomas (aka “Seinfeld’s” Soup
Nazi) in a Troma Entertainment production “Space
Daze 2.” Don’t tell me you didn’t see the first
one! A classic starring none other than Corey
Feldman…yeah, I didn’t see it either. I do
have to thank my friend and fellow “Space Daze” alum Scott
Ray for getting me on the project.
I’ve also been recording two local and booming bands.
I’m currently editing a concert DVD for the hard rockers
Euforeum. I was fortunate enough to have a spectacular crew that
included John Champion, JP Maurer, Nick
Kuzmyn, Tom Kuzmyn, Heather Markus and Jeff
Lord.
I’ve also been shooting the music video
for the first song off the new Ghettobillies album, “Cockpit.”
To hear three full songs from “Cockpit,” visit: www.myspace.com/ghettobillies.
If you like what you hear, come out to the Wise Fool’s Pub
on Lincoln Ave in Chicago. It will be their last local appearance
until the fall thanks to a massive European tour that will take them through
Germany, France and Serbia, among many other countries.
WRITING
After a year-long hiatus I’ve gotten back to my real passion –
writing. I’ve developed a story I hope to have fully developed into
a feature script by the end of this year with
Hawaiian North Shore surfer “Easy.”
I’m also developing a comedic hour-long television series
with Jeff Lord and Chris
Pry. So far about we have about one and a half episodes
written.
