daryl wein

If you were to ask writer-director Daryl Wein what actor should portray him in a movie, he would say “Meryl Streep”. His ability to scan the recesses of his brain to come up with this quick-witted answer is what makes Daryl’s brand of comedy particularly engaging.

Daryl was born in Los Angeles, his current residence. He is the son of a creative director in advertising and is a graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts (for acting) and the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

His first feature “Breaking Upwards”, which he co-wrote with and is starring his wife and frequent collaborator Zoe Lister-Jones, was an official selection in the narrative competition at the SXSW Film Festival and earned a theatrical release. Daryl went on to direct “Lola Versus” with Greta Gerwig which opened at Tribeca, both Sundance Premieres “White Rabbit” with Vivian Bang and “How It Ends” featuring an ensemble including Olivia Wilde, Helen Hunt, and most recently “Something from Tiffany’s” with Zoey Deutch and Kendrick Sampson.

In advertising, Daryl has directed spots for Apple and the short film “Let’s Get Digital” for AT&T and Vice, as well as PSAs, one notably for NRDC featuring Thomas Middleditch from the TV series “Silicon Valley”.

In addition, Daryl has directed tv episodes for “Mozart In The Jungle” at Amazon, “Single Parents” and has a director/executive producer credit to “Pay No Attention”, a TV series for Refinery29’s channel. The series is based on the lead character played by Vivian Bang in “White Rabbit”.

Since it’s good to get a perspective from a person who is the subject of a bio, we asked Daryl to tell us what three words describe him best. He answered, “grilled cheese sandwich”. We’ll just leave that one right here …
