Dana Scruggs is a Chicago-born, Brooklyn-based photographer and director. At the beginning of her career she launched SCRUGGS Magazine. A print publication dedicated to her vision to the male form for which she wrote and photographed all the content herself.
Her breakthrough coincided with an industry first: In 2018, she became the first Black woman in the 10-year history of ESPN’s Body Issue to photograph one of its featured athletes. 2018 marked another major first step for the photographer. Her Rolling Stones cover of rapper Travis Scott was the first by a Black photographer in the magazine’s half-century run. Since then, her cover subjects have included Stacey Abrams, Janelle Monáe, Yara Shahidi and Mariah Care. She also was among 15 artist portfolios featured in Antwaun Sargent’s acclaimed 2019 book, The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion.
Dana Scruggs has been living and working in New York for the past 7 years. Her unique vision continues to be utilized by many brands globally.
